Fairey Firefly Z1956 & Z1958 - 29/07/1944

On the 29th July 1944 Fairey Firefly No Z1956 and Z1958 of No 1772 squadron were involved in a mid air collision 17 miles West of Southport. Fairey Firefly No Z1956 was being flown by Lieutenant M.J.C. Wright who parachuted to safety, however his crewman Lieutenant (A) J.G.C. Sloan was unfortunately killed. Fairey Firefly No Z1956 was being flown by Lieutenant Commander A.H.D. Gough, both crewmen bailed out but  Lieutenant (A) M.H.A. Baker was killed.

Lieutenant (A) James Gladstone Campbell Sloan

Lieutenant (A) James Gladstone Campbell Sloan  Age 24 was the Son of John Sloan and Sarah Sloan and husband of Nena Moir Sloan, of Muirend, Glasgow. He is buried in Dunlop Cemetery Ayrshire, Sec. O. Grave 199. 

Lieutenant (A) Montgomery Harold Albert Baker

Lieutenant (A) Montgomery Harold Albert Baker age 24 was the son of Son of Albert and May Baker, of Ottershaw, Surrey and is remembered on the Lee-On-Solent Memorial, Bay 5, Panel 4.
