Fairey Barracuda P9744 - 17/101945.
On the 10th October 1945 Fairey Barracuda No P9744 of No 714 squadron whilst on cross country flight from Rattray to Burscough had to carry out a forced landing at Scarsbrick on a ploughed field due to Dense fog on arrival at airfield. The aircraft overturned and from the resulting injuries the pilot died. The aircraft was flown by Sub Lieutenant (A) K. A. Rodgers R.N.V.R.
Sub Lieutenant (A) Keith Ashworth Rodgers age 22 was the son of Harry and Fay Rodgers, of Haslingden and the husband of Beryl Rodgers, of Haslingden. He is remember at Rochdale Crematorium, panel No 6.
