On the 11th November 1943 Supermarine Spitfires LR693 of No 886 squadron
and NM929 of No 808 squadron were flying on a "Wing Air Exercise" when they
collided and crashed North of Carnforth killing both of the pilots. LR693
was flown by Sub Lieutenant (A) R. A. Colbeck RNZNVR and NM929 was flown by
Sub Lieutenant (A) E. A. Philpot.

Philpott, of Woodthorpe, Nottingham and is buried in Arnold Cemetery,
Nottinghamshire, Class A. Cons. Grave 121.
