19/08/1944 - Curtiss Helldiver JW105

On the 19th August 1944 Curtiss Helldiver No JW105 of No 1820 Squadron whilst on a Squadron cross country formation flight that the aircraft lost power at 3000 feet. Sub Lieutenant Jones force landed with the undercarriage retracted on Farmland near Sedburg, Westmorland, the aircraft was being flown by Sub Lieutenant Euan P. Jones RNZN with Alf Coambes as his Observer. It was later discovered that the cause of the engine failure was due to falure of the Supercharger.

Sub Lieutenant Euan Jones received a commendation for landing his aircraft with out loss of life.
